So I’m still playing with that lolly/cloud effect from my last mani. So many new options to explore! This came out looking more like water marbling than the soft cloud look I’d intended.
My partner thinks I look like a ‘surfy chick’…Puberty Blues I ain’t, none the less it does have a kind of surf look to it…hence the name Wind Swell – when the wind whips up waves to make them all choppy and erratic.
I’m back on the BK (Beyond Kingdom) polishes, I love them so much, cute, cheap, fast drying, yummy scents and did I meant cheap?
So let’s have a closer look at the nails.
Added my left hand for you to see. I always paint my left hand the worst, despite the fact I’m right handed!? It’s just kind of weird that I’m neater with my left hand; the artwork always looks better.
Anyhoo…the polishes are China Glaze – White on White & BK 18″ (scented) – #28 (Berries), #29 (Coconut), #30 (Vanilla). Topped with Seche Vite.
How I got this Effect
So how I did it was by layering the colours on, one at a time. I didn’t wait for them to dry for more than a minute or two, so essentially I was layering them over one another while they were still wet, (but not enough to stick to the brush). Sweeping the polish on with downstroke, and following the many curves as I went.
To finish, while they were still very tacky (and the polish was super thick on the end) I got the Seche Vite and instead of putting it on with the ‘floating’ (barely touching) strokes, I actually let it drag down firmly on the nail (in the nail center with one sweep) and it dragged off a heap of excess polish; which spilled over the top of the tip. I then carefully removed the spill with a toothpick and (on some nails) a cuticle pusher. I then used a little water on a finger to push down the thick polish on the tips of my nails, sealing them, then another coat of Seche Vite only this time with a ‘floating’ stroke and voilá….surfer chick nails!
It’s quite tricky and was a bit of a messy job, but nowhere near as messy as water marbling looks to be. I think this would look great in any colour, pastel lemons & yellows would be really nice to do.
Anyhoo…there you have it. Be sure and let me know if you try to recreate this look. I’d love to see what you come up with!!
